Using Preprinted Forms Overview
Some tax authorities require that certain forms be machine readable. Many of these forms must be printed in special red or blue drop-out ink that is not visible to the machine processing the form. Federal 1099s and 1098s are examples of this kind of form. You can choose to order from several suppliers that provide these preprinted forms. Kindly ensure that the ordered version matches the layout used by Thomson Reuters.
When using one of these forms, enter data as you would for any other form. When you are ready to print, you will be prompted to place a blank form in the printer at the proper time. Only the first page will print on the special form paper. The data you entered will print on subsequent pages without the form image.
At times, the fields on the Form print may not appear in the correct positions. While the Form image is designed to match the original as closely as possible, you may need to adjust the field positions to generate a better print.
If all of the data appears incorrectly aligned, use the Printer Calibration function to make adjustments.
Note: Printer Calibration modifies the data on preprinted forms only, and does not change the print position of regular forms or data.
