Using Sales & Use Rate Lookup

You can search for sales and use rate information by identifying a particular jurisdiction:

1. On the Tools screen, click Sales & Use Rate Lookup on the left navigation bar.
   
   A sub-menu appears under Sales & Use Rate Lookup.
2. Click By State, County, City on the left navigation bar.
3. On the Sales & Use Rate Lookup screen, select a state to search from the State drop-down list.
   
4. Provide the name of the county or city you want to search in one of the following ways:
   
• To provide only a county name, select the county from the County drop-down list.
• To provide a county name and a city name, select the county from the County drop-down list, and then select the city from the City Name drop-down list.
• To provide only a city name, type the city name in the City Name field without first selecting a county.
5. Click Search.
   

The Sales & Use Rate Lookup Results screen displays a table of sales and use rates for the city or county you selected. Select a link in the table for a closer look at a specific zip code.

You can search for sales and use rate information by zip code:

1. On the Tools screen, click Sales & Use Rate Lookup on the left navigation bar.
   
   A sub-menu appears under Sales & Use Rate Lookup.
2. Click By Zip Code on the left navigation bar.
3. In the Zip Code field, enter the zip code of the location you wish to search. You can enter the zip code in either the 5-digit or 9-digit format with no dashes or spaces.
   
4. Click Search.
   

The Sales & Use Rate Lookup Results screen displays a table of sales and use rates for the zip code you selected. Select a link in the table for a closer look at a city within the zip code.

The Compare Rates tool includes three search tools:

• Search by State and County or City Name
• Search by Zip or Zip+4
• Compare Rates

The Search by State and County or City Name and Search by Zip or Zip+4 are identical to the first two Sales & Use Rate Lookup tools, except that they each include an Effective Date field. By entering a date, you can view prior period sales and use rates for a specified state, county, city, or zip code. Prior rates are available for periods after 2/1/2007.

To use the Compare Rates tool:

1. On the Tools screen, click Sales & Use Rate Lookup on the left navigation bar.
   
   A sub-menu appears under Sales & Use Rate Lookup.
2. Click Compare Rates on the left navigation bar.
3. In the Compare Rates section of the Sales & Use Rates Lookup screen, specify the beginning date of a date range by typing the date in the Start Effective Date field or by clicking the calendar symbol and selecting the date.
4. Specify the end date of the date range by typing the date in the End Effective Date field or by clicking the calendar symbol and selecting the date.
   
5. Select the type of rate you want to search from the Rate Type drop-down list. The choices are:
   
   • Consumers use
   • Rental
   • Sales
   • Sellers use
6. From the State list, select the state or jurisdiction you want to search.
   
   You have the option to save a jurisdiction for future use or retrieve a previously saved jurisdiction as part of the current search criteria.
   
7. Optionally, you can select the check box to have monthly rate changes e-mailed at or near the end of the month.
8. Click Search.
   

The Sales & Use Rate Lookup Results screen displays a table of the rate type for the selected jurisdiction within the specified date range. Rate changes are represented by multiple listings within a county, city, zip code, or location, with all comparative sales and use rate information provided. Select a link in the table for a closer look at a zip code within the state.
